The Wives of Ignatious Nathan Gann |

In contrast to the amount of information discovered about Ignatious Nathan Gann himself, relatively little is known about Nathan's first three wives. More information - much more information- is available about his last wife,
Sarah (Delaney) Gann than all of the others combined. This is not unexpected since Sarah lived past the mid-19th century and was involved in his probate as well. After about 1850, more records are available regarding women. Prior to that, information with which to document women's lives is scarce, other than marriage records, dower statements on deeds, and probate proceedings. From the beginning of our research, we constantly sought information regarding these wives. This resulted in one of the most exciting finds of the entire research process - which also turned out to be the most frustrating. Overall, however, our research regarding the wives proved less productive than hoped. We present here all that we have been able to learn regarding the women who shared Ignatious Nathan's life. |
